This unique experience is a crucial element of our concept, which can best be compared to a Japanese omakase menu. Literally: ‘I leave it to the chef*.’ After all, Gert De Mangeleer is constantly searching for the best products and ingredients, in accordance with the season and availability. He combines these in a harmonious package that is balanced, well thought-out, and occasionally with a wink. It’s like enjoying a concert with your eyes closed. At Hertog Jan at Botanic Sanctuary, all of your senses are stimulated, from the welcoming words to the final greeting from the kitchen.

At the end of 2018, Hertog Jan in Zedelgem (near Bruges) closed its doors. To many, this decision came as a surprise, but Gert De Mangeleer and Joachim Boudens saw it as logical step in their careers. They wanted to make time for other projects and new dreams: a brasserie with perfectly executed, classic dishes (Bar Bulot) and a trendy restaurant with worldly influences (LESS Eatery).
In the summer of 2020, they received a proposal to participate in the unique total experience of hotel Botanic Sanctuary in Antwerp. There, Hertog Jan revives with a unique and fixed menu in an intimate setting with its own greenhouse, beehives, and herb garden. Botanic Sanctuary is the first five-star hotel in Antwerp, with more than a hundred intimate rooms and suites, a state-of-the-art spa, and several other high-quality restaurants, such as the second establishment of Bar Bulot. Botanic Sanctuary is an architectural masterpiece, yet at the same time a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city of Antwerp.

The Botanic Sanctuary site is located in the center of Antwerp. Tram lines 4 and 7 take you to the stop Mechelseplein or the stop Oudaan, lines 1 and 10 have a stop at the city park. Count on a 5-to-10-minute walk. You can also walk from Antwerp Central station in 15 to 20 minutes.

Brussels Airport is 45 minutes away from the city center of Antwerp. There are regular direct or semi-direct trains to Antwerp.
